2nd Annual WSLS 10 / Hunters for the Hungry Sportsmen's Banquet

A Huge Success !

Sponsored by

The 2nd Annual WSLS 10 / Hunters for the Hungry Sportsmen's Banquet was held on Saturday September 27, 2008 at Dave Sarmadi Mitsubishi in Salem, Virginia. The event was filled with fun, fellowship, entertainment, a great meal, and allowed the Hunters for the Hungry program to spread important awareness while raising some much needed funding. The event was sold out with nearly 400 attendees representing many area businesses, organizations, and families.

The evening consisted of a social hour that allowed attendees to enjoy some fellowship while taking part in a variety of raffles and the silent auction and also viewing the nice variety of items that made up the live auction held later in the evening. During this time the nearly 40 children that were in attendance enjoyed some time of coloring and crafts along with demonstrations and interaction with representatives from Super Kicks Karate Studios as well as with Special Guest, Byron L. Tabor.

Prior to a wonderful meal catered by County Kitchen Catering of Blacksburg, the crowd was welcomed and thanked for their attendance as well as addressed by the Hunters for the Hungry Program Director, Laura Newell- Furniss. Laura's welcome was followed by a treat for everyone with a demonstration and testimony from World Champion Archer and Founder and Director of "On Target for Christ Ministries" Byron L. Tabor.  Byron not only brought a message of caring for those who hunger but kept the crowd smiling and on the edge of their chairs as he entertained with his archery skills.

After a delicious meal, the evening was closed with the conduction of its live and silent auctions. The overall event was a huge success raising nearly $27,000 dollars. This amount of monies will allow the Hunters for the Hungry program to process and distribute approximately 135,000 four ounce servings of high protein, low fat venison to needy men, women, and children in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas as well as all across the Commonwealth.

The Hunters for the Hungry program wishes to express its deepest and most sincere gratitude to each business, organization, and individual that contributed to this very special event. A very heartfelt thank you is extended to everyone who took time out of his or her busy schedules to attend the event. And to Mr. Dave Sarmadi and Mr. Robert Harper of Dave Sarmadi Mitsubishi, who have allowed this event to be held in the showroom of their business for 3 years in a row.

However, as is the case with any event such as this one, you must have the items to make up the banquet, a location to hold it, and the people to attend. No event is possible without those who labor and sacrifice to make the idea a reality. A most special thank you goes out to each member of the banquet committee who worked tirelessly for nearly 9 months putting together this wonderful and successful event. The banquet committee is as follows: Bill and Katherine Cochran, Fred and Phyllis Wells, Mike and Alice Ricucci, Josie and Del Eyer, Jim and Linda Stanley, Jason and Wendy Lewia, Bob and Nancy Hambrick, J.R. Davidson and Rose Nichols, Judy Bergloff, Jeff Fletcher, Claiborne Fletcher, Robert Harper, Margaret Bergloff, Frank Haley, Sara Haley, Bill Pyles, Greg Funkhouser, and Billy and Barbara Williams.
